When Will I Meet Someone? Korean Astrology on Love Timing

Saju is Korean astrology: a birth chart read from the year, month, day and hour you were born. When will I meet someone? Saju does not give a date. It reads timing as tendencies: the years and 10-year cycles that bring your spouse star into play or stir your spouse palace, which are the stretches when relationships tend to start, deepen or change.

When will I meet someone, according to saju?

Saju answers "when will I meet someone" with a pattern, not a date. A reader looks for the years when the relationship parts of your chart are most active, and treats those as windows when meeting people and committing tend to come more easily.

Three things are checked, in this order:

• Your spouse star: the element that stands for a partner, which depends on your saju type.
• Your spouse palace: the bottom character of your day pillar, read as the seat of your closest relationship.
• Your timing pillars: the 10-year cycle you are in and each year's pillar, which bring new elements into your chart.

What is the spouse star in saju?

The spouse star is the element in your chart that stands for a partner. Which element it is depends on your saju type, which saju experts call your Day Master: the top character of your day pillar, one of ten.

Traditional saju splits it by gender. For a woman, the spouse star is the officer star (官星), the element that controls her saju type. For a man, it is the wealth star (財星), the element his saju type controls. Many modern readers check both stars for everyone, since either one can describe the people you are drawn to.

What is the spouse palace in saju?

The spouse palace is the earthly branch of your day pillar (日支), the bottom half of your birth-day characters. Saju reads it as the seat of your closest relationship, so the years that touch it get extra attention.

Two kinds of contact matter most:

• Combination (合): a year whose branch pairs with your day branch, read as pull and closeness. The six branch pairs are 子丑, 寅亥, 卯戌, 辰酉, 巳申 and 午未.
• Clash (沖): a year whose branch sits opposite your day branch, read as movement: starting, ending or rearranging something close. The six clashes are 子午, 丑未, 寅申, 卯酉, 辰戌 and 巳亥.

A clash is not a bad sign in itself. Plenty of relationships begin in a year of movement, because movement is what gets people out of old routines.

How do 10-year cycles shape love timing?

A 10-year cycle, called daeun (大運), is a decade-long pillar that sits on top of your birth chart and colors that whole stretch of life. When a cycle carries your spouse star, readers see a decade in which relationships tend to take up more of your attention.

Your cycles start from your month pillar and run forward or backward, depending on your gender and on whether your birth year is yang or yin. The first one begins within roughly the first 10 years of life, set by how many days you were born from the nearest seasonal boundary. How do yearly pillars mark relationship years?

Each year has its own pillar, called seun (歲運), and it changes at Ipchun, the start of spring around 4 February, not on 1 January. Readers compare each year's pillar with your spouse star and your spouse palace.

The years most often pointed to:

• a year whose stem or branch is your spouse star element
• a year whose stem combines with your saju type
• a year whose branch combines with or clashes your day branch
• a year where two of these happen at once

What does love timing look like in a real chart?

Here is a made-up example, calculated with the PAL:JA engine. Mina was born on March 20, 1998, at 14:30 in Seoul, and she is a Sun 丙, a fire type, so her spouse star is water.

Her chart is year 戊寅, month 乙卯, day 丙寅 and hour 乙未. Seoul sits near 127°E, 8 degrees west of the 135°E meridian that Korean clocks follow, so true solar time puts her birth 32 minutes earlier, at 13:58, still in the 未 hour.

Two things stand out. First, there is no water anywhere in her birth chart, not even hidden inside the branches. Second, her 10-year cycle from 2023 to 2032 is 壬子, a double-water pillar, so a whole decade, about age 24 to 33, brings the spouse star she was born without.

Inside a decade that already carries water, 2031 is the year a reader would circle: both halves of its pillar combine with both halves of her day pillar, and its branch is her spouse star. 2028 is the year of movement, when her spouse palace is clashed. None of this says she meets someone in 2031; it shows which years tend to put relationships at the front of her chart.

If Mina were a man, the reading would change. His spouse star would be metal, and his 10-year cycles would run in the other direction.

What is peach blossom in saju?

Peach blossom (桃花) is a branch read as charm and social pull, and many people look for it when asking about love. It is found from your year or day branch: 寅午戌 point to 卯, 申子辰 to 酉, 巳酉丑 to 午, and 亥卯未 to 子.

Mina's year and day branches are both 寅, so her peach blossom branch is 卯, and she already has it in her month pillar. Readers take that as a tendency to draw attention easily, not as a timing signal on its own.

Can saju give an exact date for meeting someone?

No. Saju describes which years tend to favor meeting people, committing or changing a relationship, but who you meet depends on choices and circumstances that no chart contains.

Treat a highlighted year as a good time to say yes to invitations, not as a deadline. A quiet year in your chart is not a closed door either.

What if my chart has no spouse star?

That is common, and it does not mean a life without partners. It usually means the spouse star arrives from outside, through 10-year cycles and yearly pillars, as in Mina's chart, so those periods matter more.

Readers also look at the spouse palace, which every chart has. Your day branch is always there, whatever mix of elements you were born with.
